seniority distraction is a very serious issue in the teaching career. in the article "Teaching our children can be a profession" The author talks about problems in the teaching profession. He talks about how we need to recruit teachers in a new way and how we need to only hire the top 3% as teachers. Plus the problem with tenure teachers. I agree with the problems that are listed except for the top 3%, because even if you are super smart doesn't mean your a great teacher. Some people are so smart that they don't get the fact that some students have trouble understanding. Where as a teacher that has had to study and struggle will understand that students are having trouble and actually help them. Another issue that was brought up was that teachers should be revered as the same level as doctors and lawyers. I do not agree with this statement. Doctors and lawyers go to school longer, pay more and, have more of an important job. Sure we teach the kids of the future but we aren't saving lives and putting away criminals.

in the post the author talks about how they sat students down and let them break down a content standard. The point was to get the kids to understand the why and how of the lesson. Meaning why they do it and take another perspective on learning. The kids broke down the standard in a simplistic form and explained what and why they did it the whole point was to see if students could understand the text. Plus figure out the meaning of it.

I feel like the we could have done more hands on type of work in our Physical Education field. I feel like most of the projects are based on more teacher class room stuff. But As a physical educator i feel as we are felt out. A project that we could have done is teach a sport or a exercise type of project as teaching a lesson. this project would benefit us and other education majors a like. By video taping us doing a specific lesson according to our field of study it would show us what is needed and how to act in front of a class. Plus being able to practice a skill we can actually use and with being a video a person can watch it and learn from mistakes.

John R. Sowash had an very interesting article and series of videos about google vault. He talks about how to use the archiver and how a school can prevent Cyber bullying. He goes into how the tool can keep track of the data and recordit. Then your school can keep track of the data and help keep kids safe. it also helps filter wbsites for students. He uses examples of staff of schools not doing the right thing. Google vault can prevent the staff from destroying evidence and be away to find it in a quick matter. Google vault is also free so you can save money on archiving.

Mr.John R. Sowash  my name is Turner Mason I'm a student of South Alabama in EDM 310
I thought your slides were very interesting and i will look more into the application of this in to a school setting.

Google Vault is a good way to keep track of teachers and students a like on matters of school. Evrything can be found easily and in a timely manner and can not be hidden. i feel that it is a good way to save data and keep records on it.

What can teachers and students teach us  about project based learning? is a question that i was wondering myself before i read some articles and watched a video on this subject. The first article i read showed me steps that should be taken when using a project to teach with. These 7 questions gives guide lines on how to use project based learning effectively. By using a driving question a student will begin to think own their own and think out side the box on using a project. using this will also help students with skills from the 21st century with computer stuff and may even help with solving problem later down the road. next the videos "project based learning in physical education " and in "pbl in P.E." they show that project based learning is not just in a class room but used in fitness area as well by giving students a way to teach health and fitness, plus getting other students involved in this as well. and in the last source i learned what drives students to do better like wanting scucess or personal gain either way project based learning has a great place in the class room.

After all the stuff that I've been shown in college, The Randy Paunch video is the most useful and helpful. What a person can learn from him goes way beyond what a normal College Professor thinks of. Mr. Paunch teaches us what helps people out in the long run, not just a bunch of silly facts or dates. Paunch teaches us about how to achieve your dreams but more importantly what goes along into the journey. He talks about how is experiences happened and the way that impacted him for the better.  We can learn that the best thing come when you can wait and work hard. That brick walls just make you stronger and lets you see how bad you really want something. We can learn how to love live even when there is a bad thing looming over our head. We can learn that each dream is important and can be hit but if its not then you learn the lesson of what life throws at you and something else better comes along the way.everything this man says helps you and gives you a boost in life. He teaches that each person has skill qualities and how they can use them. Hes was a great man and a very insightful person.

From the videos i learned a great deal about how project based learning can help in a classroom.
As Mr. Capps showed examples of how he used projects to help his class work on skills. Such as writing to Joe Bonher about females serving in open combat. Then he went into detail about how these project helped his students on writing and comprehension. I have taken into account about keeping projects simple as he does makes it easy to use and friendly. The videos opened  a new door of a more hands on approach to learning. i will use this in my classroom in the future.

A PLN also known as a Personal Learning Net work is probably one of the most important ways to learn. A PLN is away for you to connect to information and how and what information you choose. Twitter,Facebook, and other social networks are considered part of this PLN. As a future teacher i recomend this. It allows a student to stay connected with information at all times. The student can get it from friends family a random twitter post it doesn't matter because they ae always connected to information. I will encourage my students to use this in hopes to expand their minds and gather as much as possible so they can be the best they can be.

Asking questions can be a very important way for teacher to get on the level of students. By asking a question a teacher can jump start the minds of a student making them think and use this tool.
But how do you ask a question that is effective? Simple really the question should be in depth to force the student to find an answer on there own. Now your tempting a student to find out the answer and teach themselves which is the reason for education. Question are a great way to force a student to find things out and to really learn. Say your teaching history and are studying WW2 you ask a question like What drove Hitler into being the man who he became? this question now forces the student to read not just the when where but puts more on the why. which is the most important because this helps students get more interested and learn the small thing that will peak the student to learn more.

Peer editing is a very important way for students to help each other in school work. As stated in the video "What is peer editing" the peer editing process has 3 steps Compliments,Rules, and staying positive. By using these rules a student can peer edit to perfection. Compliments  allows the student to keep the writer in high spirits letting the writer  know that its all in a helping manner. The rules are set up so the editor knows what he needs to look for and what needs to be fixed. Staying positive allows the editor to put off a good clean air and not down grade the writer.

Making suggestions to the writer will also help the over all piece sound better. By making suggestions it helps the writer realize his mistakes and produces a better piece. Remember staying positive with your suggestions helps because you don,t want the writer discouraged. Then making corrections according  and produce a great piece. Also do not be picky or not give a flip either just do a good job and follow the steps and there will be a great peer edit.

Teaching in the 21st Century blog post #2

Teaching in the 21st century is going to be a challenge. Not only can kids get a jump start on your lessons but also it will create an generation of teachers who will be hindered in the way they teach. the reason i say this is because the tech generation of teachers will come as an over reliance on technology. As showed in "Mr. Dancealot" the teacher was teaching a dance class but only used technology to show it. He didn't let them actually dance but showed them all on a powerpoint slide then expected them to dance. Needless to say it didn't work.

On the video "Teaching in the 21st Century" they talk about how tech will keep students ahead of teachers. Using google and other available tech to learn. This is a great helper to kids but not the main way to teach. Kids will be able to use this as a tutor along with the teachers own words. They also show each way a kid can learn and what they use like cell phones or Social media.

In the video "Networked Student" They talked about how a student can use devices to expand his learning. In doing so teachers need to encourage this. It will help use as a way to speed up learning process and to help better details. Teachers will use this tool and also use it themselves to stay ahead of students. IN turn the teacher will be able to teach more and  better than before.

In the video "Harness Your Students Digital Smarts" the video explains how a teacher uses tech to further a students learning. In the future teachers can use this same style to get kids involved in the process. By using google maps, a video, or blog a student can really learn to learn own their own.
which can really help kids in the long run be independent. Because we all know knowledge is power.

Dr. Strange brought some good points by showing how kids and his students are learning on computers. Future teachers are going to need to learn how to use tech as well as a student. Because a student has grown up with this they can use it inside and out. a teacher will have to know to be able to answer a question about it.

In the collum i read about lessons in the locker room i was slightly annoyed at the fact this guy doesnt even know sports.Future coaches will contuinue to be a leader in the athletes eyes. Future coaches will have to push students in the classroom. Plus be able to keep kids a tuned and alert on their grades plus use the use of football to teach moral lessons as well!

I have heard that EDM310 is a rather tough class that it is a hard class and requires a lot of time and hard work. The only fear is that I may forget to check the email and miss an blog post and get a zero on it. The most difficult thing for me about the class is the fact that I am awful with time management I stay so busy with football and playing gigs with my band to make money I forget sometimes to check my email. honestly its like no other class i've taken I don't ever really take online classes so working with a computer is weird plus none of my classes at Fruitdale High School used computers because it was a hassle. the best thing I can do for this class is to force myself to read email and make time for my work. I have no questions for the
instructor for this class because I just gotta get it done.

My name is Turner Mason i am from Citronelle Alabama. I am a physical Education major and future football coach. I am a huge fitness freak i love to lift weights and competed in mens physique section of Bodybuilding. I also play guitar in a blues band i love music and i played football in high school, and coached football at 2 high schools. i came to south Alabama because i got a job working with the football team i work with the Offensive Line and Special Teams. I wanted to get into Physical Education because of my love of fitness and teaching kids how to be fit  and make an impression on how to live a fitness lifestyle.

As an Physical Education major i think our job will be as important more now than ever.
with kids staying inside and not getting out and playing, P.E. teachers need to get these kids fit and exercise them. Our job in the future will  be more and more restricted with the way schools are doing safety. With more kids getting hurt they will really soften the things we do. P.E. teachers in the future will have their hands full but i think we can handle it.

my true passion is fitness and weightlifting
